The Victorian League kicked off this weekend with a bang!! After this first round, Warnambool leads the ladder followed by Melbourne both with 1 victory. Lisport and Mordialloc 1, follow 3rd and 4th both with a tie, leaving Dandenong and Mordialloc 2, 5th and 6th. Still a long way to go, and a lot more of good matches to come. Below is a summary of each of match.
First victory of the competition goes to Warnambool
The games began with Warrnambool having a convincing win against Mordialloc 2 with a 14-1 result. Jamie Brockman lead the score board with 6 goals and great to see Kaley Brockman back in the cage showing good form. Max Cook from Mordialloc score the only goal for his team.
Game 2 was more closely fought out between Melbourne and Dandenong with both teams playing with a passion and going for the win. In the end Melbourne came out on top with a 6-3 win, however it wasn’t until the last 4 minutes that Melbourne was able to look like the likely winners. Paul Maruszak scored 2 goals for Dandenong with James Maglaras scoring a brilliant sweep shot from 15 metres out to round out the 3rd for the team. Melbourne lead from the start with Jordi Poblet leading the team with 3 goals and Michael Emmet with 2.
Fair draw to close Round 1
Lisport and Mordialloc 1 played out the 3rd game with the game looking to be in control from Mordialloc with a half time score of 3-0. The second half was a new looking Lisport with slight adjustments to the teams tactics which proved successful. Lisport were able to keep Mordialloc from scoring and one by one were able to get on the score board to make it 3-3 with less than 1 minute remaining. In the final seconds Carlos Fernandes missed a golden opportunity to take the win, however the result seemed fair with both teams showing effort to last dying seconds. The final score 3-3.
